General Awareness:--Aptitude Part2

Average:

Average =
(
Sum of observations
)
Number of observations

Average Speed:
Assuming that a man covers a certain distance at x kmph and an equal distance at y kmph.

Then, the average speed of That man druing the whole journey is
(
2xy
)
kmph.
x + y

Points To Remember:
  • If all the numbers are increased by 'x’, then their average will also be increased by ' x’.
  • If all the numbers are decreased by ‘x’, then their average will also be decreased by 'x’.
  • If all the numbers are multiplied by 'x’, then their average will also be multiplied by 'x'.
  • If all the numbers are divided by 'x', then their average will also be divided by 'x’.

Examples:--
1        1.      Find the average of first five multiples of 3 is:

Solution given below :
Basic Formula: 1,2,3...n
If n is odd, the formula is (X + 1)/2 th term
The five multiples of 3 is 3,6,9,12,15
(n+1)/2(5+1)/2 th term
(6/2)th term
3rd term
Here 3rd  term is 9

2.      There are two types of sections  A and B of a class, consisting of 36 and 44 students’ respectively. If the average weight of section A is 40kg and that of section B is 35kilo gram, find the average weight of the whole class.

Solution: Total weight of (36+44=80) Students =(36×40+44×35)  kg = 2980 kg

Therefore average weight of the whole class =(2980/80) kg

Therefore average weight = 37.25kg

 3. Find the average of first 5 multiple of 4.
 4. Find the average of first 10 multiple of 10

10.what is the average of first 100 even numbers.
11. find the average of first 100 odd numbers and subtract it with first 100 even numbers.
 12. Calculate the average of the velocity at a particular time interval of a person if he moves 8m in 4 sec and 18 m in 6 sec along x-axis?
13. In travelling from jaipur to Nagpur , Rahul drove his bike for 2 hours at 60 kmph and 3 hours at 70 kmph
14.A car goes from Haryana to Chennai with an average speed of 60 km/hr. The journey totally takes 30 hours. It returns from Chennai to Haryana on the same road with an average speed of 40 km/hr. What was the average speed of the car during the roundtrip?
15. A man travels from Delhi to Goa in exactly 8 hours with a speed of 120 km/hr. From Goa, the person travels to Jaipur in 34 hours. If the distance from Goa to Jaipur was 2000 km, how long will it take to get from Delhi to Bombay if the man maintains the speed equal to the average speed? The distance from Delhi to Bombay is 1400 km.
