The preamble to the Constitution of India is a statement or brief description that sets out the guiding purpose, philosophy and principles of the constitution. Preamble gives idea about the following : (1) what is the source of the Indian constitution, (2) nature of Indian states (3) objectives and (4) the date of adoption of constitution.
Source of the Constitution (from where )
We the people of India (beginning of preamble)
The phrase “We the people of India” elaborates that the constitution is made by and for the Indian people and not given to them by any outside power. It also emphasizes or importance the concept of popular sovereignty as laid down by Rousseau.
Whai is Nature of Indian state::
Sovereign : India is internally and externally sovereign –(in other words sovereign means : free to take any decisions) externally free from the control of any foreign power and internally, it has a free government which is directly elected by the people and makes all laws that govern the people. No external power can control the government of India.
Socialist : “Socialism” as an economic philosophy where means of production and distribution are owned by the Government. India adopted Mixed or combination of two economy, here apart from government, there will be private organisations too. Socialism as a social philosophy stresses more on the social equality.
Secular: India has no particular religion stated as national religion. In India all religions are treated equal.
Democratic :it Indicates that the Constitution has established a form of Government which gets its authority from the will of the people. The government is elected by the people and are responsible to them.
Republic : it means who can be at highest position in government, in India as a republic nation, every citizen has Equal opportunity to be president. The post of the President of Vice Of President India is not hereditary. Every citizen of India is equally eligible to become the President or Vice president of the country.
What are the objectives of indian State:
Justice : Social, Economic and Political.
Equality : of status and opportunities.
Liberty : 5 words those are
Expression, belief, faith and worship, thought.
Brotherhood : assuring the dignity of the each individual and the unity and integrity of the nation.
Date of its adoption
Date of adoption of the Indian Constitution is 26th November, 1949.
But most of the articles in Constitution came into force on 26th, January 1950. Those articles which came into existence on 26th Novemeber 1949 is given by Article 394 in constitution.
Article 394 states that this article (394) and articles 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 60, 324, 366, 367, 379, 380, 388, 391, 392 and 393 shall come into force from 26th November 1949 (known as constitution day) and the remaining articles of this Constitution shall come into force on 26th of January, 1950, which day is referred to in this Constitution as the commencement of this Constitution. India celebrates 26th January as republic day
26 January was purposely selected by constitutional assembly because in this day in 1930 at Pakistan the Declaration of Independence (Purna Swaraj) was proclaimed by the Indian National Congress by Jhwaharlal Nehru. 26th January was celebrated as Purna swaraj day.

The preamble page of constitution alongof India, along with the other pages of the original Constitution , was designed and decorated alone by famous painter Beohar Rammanohar Sinha of Jabalpur.
Indian Constitution was first signed by Rajendra Prasad and last person who signed was Firoz gandhi.
Article 394 states that this article (394) and articles 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 60, 324, 366, 367, 379, 380, 388, 391, 392 and 393 shall come into force from 26th November 1949 (known as constitution day) and the remaining articles of this Constitution shall come into force on 26th of January, 1950, which day is referred to in this Constitution as the commencement of this Constitution. Supreme Court of India has, in the Kesavananda Bharti case 1973 , recognised that the preamble may be used to interpret ambiguous areas of the constitution where differing interpretations present themselves. (In the 1995 case of Union Government Vs LIC of India also the Supreme Court has once again held that Preamble is the integral part of the Constitution and changes possible in preamble too.
As originally enacted the preamble described the country as a “sovereign democratic republic”. In 1976 the 42nd Amendment changed this words to read as “sovereign socialist secular democratic republic”.
